One of the most essential elements of training for orchestral musicians is the art of taking auditions. 管弦乐表现 majors have the opportunity to perform in regularly scheduled mock auditions during the academic year, 并联初步, 半决赛, 和 final orchestra audition st和ards 和 practices 和 adjudicated by program faculty 和 other musicians from major New York City 管弦乐队 和 performing ensembles.

The Orchestral Repertoire Coaching course, taught by program faculty 和 guests, 是四个学期, two-year sequence of coaching sessions, on the craft of orchestral performance techniques. This course offers intensive 和 focused study of 和 performance experience in diverse styles 和 periods of the orchestral repertoire. Three formats 和 different environments for learning are used for coaching: weekly instrumental sessions taught by program faculty (lessons); monthly instrumental sectionals conducted by program faculty 和 guest artists; 和 quarterly wind/brass/percussion readings conducted by both staff 和 guest conductors.

参加ance is required for repertoire classes, master classes 和 mock auditions.  Each obligation is worth 20% of the grade.

• 技能类: 字符串, winds 和 low brass will have six repertoire classes each semester, 和 horns 和 trumpets will have eight.  In addition, violins will have six studio classes

Preparation 和 training as teaching artists in Manhattan School of Music’s nationally recognized educational outreach program is offered in this required course. It has been designed to develop skills 和 offer experience as a teaching artist in elementary 和 middle school arts education programs.

学生 are exposed to a variety of pedagogical methods 和 materials during the process of writing 和 delivering classroom introductions 和 educational concerts in New York City schools, as part of Manhattan School of Music ’s educational outreach program, 音乐教.

As a result of their experience, several alumni have been hired as teaching artists 和 demonstrators within the 纽约爱乐乐团’s Education Partnership Program. Orchestral majors are encouraged to participate in Manhattan School of Music’s multifaceted outreach program, Music in Action by giving concerts in senior citizen homes, 医院, 多样化的场所, 和学校.
